Women Conquer ALZ Event Raises Awareness and Over $70K

Posted by Kristin A. Hughes, JD | Oct 08, 2024 | 0 Comments

We are proud to be a sponsor of this inaugural event.  The evening was a true celebration of women - our strength, courage and dedication to ending Alzheimer's and dementia. Women Conquer ALZ Event Raised Over $70K to benefit the programs and services provided here in Michigan for women and their loved ones impacted by dementia.

Why We Sponsor Women Conquer ALZ: Women are at the epicenter of the Alzheimer's crisis. Not only are women more likely to have Alzheimer's, but they are also more likely to be caregivers for those living with the disease. Up to 40% of dementia cases could be prevented or delayed by targeting modifiable risk factors. Research suggests combining multiple health factors may be the most impactful.

We support the Alzheimer's Association mission “to lead the way to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia — by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support” to eventually experience “a world without Alzheimer's and all other dementia.”

“The event was great and as a sponsor, having our presence there was an EXCELLENT educational experience.”

Breaking News From the Internet: The FDA has granted approval of Kisunla (donanemab) for the treatment of people living with early symptomatic Alzheimer's disease. We celebrate Kisunla's approval as more options mean greater opportunity for #MoreTime. This is the third approval of an Alzheimer's treatment that changes the underlying course of the disease.

A NOTE from ALZ of Michigan: Thank you to all who joined us at Women Conquer ALZ to learn about the latest in the search for a cure for Alzheimer's and all other dementia. The event was held at the wonderful Daxton Hotel in Birmingham, where we had a Women's Wellness Boutique featuring local, women-owned businesses and heard the latest in research from women at the forefront of change in our researcHER zone. Our thanks to all vendors, businesses and researchers who attended!

Special thanks to our speakers, emcee Heather Catallo of WXYZ Detroit, caregiver Heather Barringer and our keynote speaker Dr. Rebecca Edelmayer, Senior Director of Scientific Engagement for the Alzheimer's Association.
