KRISTIN A HUGHES, JD
ATTORNEY & COUNSELOR AT LAW

Kristin is one of those people with the gift for bringing people together. After working in Probate Court, private practice and building the Trust Department of a large law firm, Kristin solidified her vision of “what a holistic practice should look like” by opening her own law firm in September 2021. In just a few years, Schluter & Hughes Law Firm PLLC has grown to nearly 20 attorneys, paralegals, care coordinators and support staff all with specializations and drive to make Kristin's vision a reality for clients. The firm is dedicated to helping families through life transitions and challenges, finding solutions to the important questions relating to the “here and now” and “what if I need help” in the future. Kristin channeled her legal expertise into developing the Continuum LifePlanSM, an innovative system that ensures clients get a truly customized estate plan and a personal experience to help navigate life's journey.
As someone deeply passionate about supporting other women in law, Kristin is also committed to paving the way for the next generation of female attorneys. She actively mentors and creates opportunities within her firm and the broader community. She personifies excellence as an educational speaker, orchestrating collaborations with local and national companies such as the Alzheimer's Association, Northern Trust Bank, FPA Women in Finance, Next Community Center, Fox Run Senior Living, and the Pink Fund to name a few.
Schluter & Hughes Law Firm PLLC practice areas include estate planning, guardianships and conservatorships, elder law, care coordination, probate, estate and trust administration, fiduciary tax and accounting. She excels in designing sophisticated trust arrangements, both for families and charitable causes.
Committed to volunteerism and willing to tackle difficult topics, Kristin is a former Board member of the Alzheimer's Association and a current Board member of HAVEN, Oakland County's only comprehensive program for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Kristin earned her BA from Michigan State, and JD from the University of Detroit Mercy. She is an active member of the State Bar of Michigan/Probate and Elder Law Sections and participates in the ICLE Probate and Estate Planning Certificate Program.
