Erich comes to Schluter & Hughes Law Firm, PLLC with over 33 years of experience in and around civil litigation, from handling cases and appeals, to: advising clients on litigation management systems and litigation avoidance strategies; supervising thousands of cases nationally for a large automobile manufacturer; and consulting with a foreign government on legislative and regulatory frameworks for establishing state-sponsored consumer dispute resolution systems.
Erich is a native Michiganian and a first generation American who graduated from the University of Michigan with an A.B. in English and German, including a year of study at the Albert Ludwigs Universität in Freiburg, Germany. After graduating with a J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School, he served as Briefing Attorney to Justice C.L. Ray of Texas Supreme Court. Following this clerkship, he returned to Michigan to join a large Southeastern Michigan law firm, from which he retired as a senior partner after 28 years.
Erich is admitted to the State Bars of Michigan and Texas and all affiliated federal district courts and courts of appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.
Erich is passionate about music, including playing tuba in various community music groups, and serving on the Board of Directors of the Grosse Pointe Symphony Orchestra. He also loves outdoorsy things like skiing, camping, biking, sailing, kayaking, scuba diving, and, perhaps most beloved, following his wife of 34 years on hour-long off-trail tromps in May through the woods of Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore in a years-long and as yet unsuccessful attempt to find a motherlode of morel mushrooms.
